What Do Great PPC Managers Do First Thing In the Morning?

What do successful people do first thing in the morning? Most may answer generic things like “do yoga,” “go for a run” or “eat a big, healthy breakfast”; but, when it comes to PPC Managers, we want to know the technicalities of what they do to make their job great.
Before we dive into what they do first thing in the morning, let’s answer this question: what is a great PPC Manager? We use the golden rule to define that: A great PPC manager treats their clients’ money as if it’s their own.
Sure, it sounds straightforward, but if you truly do this, then everything else falls into place and makes sense. If you were investing your money in an AdWords campaign, what’s the first thing on your mind? Is everything going ok? Did you lose or make money? Here’s the 3 steps of what great PPC managers do first thing in the morning:

1. CHECKS ACCOUNTS

Check today to ensure everything makes sense. Then, check yesterday to make sure nothing alarming is going on. Then, look at the last seven days to get a small trend overview.
You’ll see the graph as either flat, increasing or decreasing; but whatever the case may be, this is a great way to get an idea of what’s going on and to confirm that everything is status quo, or, if there’s anything extreme happening. If there is, you’ll be able to catch it.
You don’t have to spend large amounts of time doing this; simply take a look at today, yesterday and the last seven days to make sure everything looks normal and nothing drastic is going on. From here, we suggest you:
Take action on anything urgent: If you have a dashboard for all your clients, that really helps, but if you don’t, this is the good old fashion way.

B. Take notes on non-urgent items: You’re going to see things that may not be urgent, but may have caught your attention. Make note of it next to the client to come back to it in the optimization stage.

2. CHECK EMAILS

Check the client emails as they may have notified you of a special sale, website being down, or any kind of “out-of-ordinary” event that may directly affect their account.
Creating site alerts are also great to get notified if their site is down. You can then contact the client and the hosting site and pause the accounts.

3. OPTIMIZATION ROUTINE

Lastly, the optimization routine is the last step of a PPC Managers morning. This is something every consultant, firm or agency has.
